Deep thought, striving with humor; the lines of suffering wreathed into cordial mirth, and a smile of painful sweetness, present an image to the mind it can as little describe as lose.

He does not enforce the creations of his imagination by the analogy of natural appearances; his instinct is just the oppositeto describe and illumine nature by a reference to the creatures of thought.

It is not easy to find pictures to give any idea of such scenes, but it is worth while to look for them, and it is also worth while for the teacher to visualise, and to practise vivid describing of what she sees.
