The words written separately will always have the same meaning, unless we omit the preposition of, and suppose the compound to be a transitive verb.

A similar compound (of more common occurrence) is "smell-smock.

If these words were united, as some think they ought to be, the compounds would be adverbs of time repeated; as, threetimes, fourtimes, &c., analogous to sometimes.

Certainly many people have given up porridge because they found it did not suit themtoo heavy, heating, &c.but we must remember that all compounds of oatmeal and water are not porridge, and the fault may lie in its preparation.

It is plain, therefore, that no divisible compound can be the true infinite.

Now a compound is a real number, and a multitude of beings.

The lower feelings produced effects on it, and their apparent compounds were only its reactions.

But, in a compound being like man, it seems next to impossible that the nature within should not at times, in some degree, transpire through the most rigid texture of the outward form.
