Evidently the location was not a savoury one.

Hotel construction has quite kept pace with the times, but hotel location is a tradition of the dark ages, when to catch patrons it was necessary to get in their way.

We had some hundred and fifty horses and mules, wagons, ambulances, arms, provisions, merchandise, mining, material,and moreover, what we considered of inestimable value, the future,in our keeping, and a proper location was a grave consideration.

We are wrong as respects the latter particular; it did not take its place, on the maps of the colony, though it took a place; the location given for many years afterwards, being some forty or fifty miles too far west.
