After the death of Kublai, Ho-lin was altered into Ho-Ning, and, in 1320, the name of the province was changed into Ling-pe (mountainous north, i.e. the Yin-shan chain, separating China Proper from Mongolia).
So, too, I am able to describe the ceremonial of the Yin dynasty, although no more can the Sung people show sufficient reason for its continuance amongst themselves.
Under the Emperor Hwang-ti (2697 B.C.) and under the Hsia Dynasty (2205 B.C.), it was made to commence with the 3rd month yin-yueeh Pisces; under the Shang Dynasty (1766 B.C.) with the 2nd month ch'ou-yueeh Aquarius, and under the Chou Dynasty (1122 B.C.) with the 1st month tzu-yueeh Capricorn.
To all educated men the "Book of Changes" (Yin-King), the "Book of Poetry" (She-King), the "Book of History" (Shoo-King), the "Book of Rites" (Le-King), the "Great Learning" (Ta-heo), showing the parental essence of all government, the "Doctrine of the Mean" (Chung-yung), teaching the "golden mean" of conduct, and the "Confucian Analects" (Lun-yu), recording his conversations, are supreme authorities; to which must be added the Works of Mencius, the greatest of his disciples.
The latter replied, "The Family of the Great Yu, of the Hia dynasty, chose a place of pine trees; the Yin founders chose cypresses; and the Chow founders chestnut trees, solemn and majestic, to inspire, 'tis said, the people with feelings of awe."
He parted from the Hsieh family, which had been closest to the emperor, and united with the Wang (the empress's) and Yin families.
