The species of vines which grow in North America, are named by Linnaeus, Vitis labrusca, vulpina, and arborea.

H. japonica arborea is a taller growing variety, with primrose-yellow petals, and a deep claret calyx.

This has smaller flowers than H.j. arborea, and they are plentifully produced in autumn or early winter.

The TREE MALLOW, Lavatera arborea, has of late years been introduced from Europe, and may now be found in many gardens in India yielding handsome purple flowers in the latter part of the rains.

Involucrata, and Microphylla, as indigenous to India, and Berberifolia, and Moschata arborea, as of Persian origin, whilst twelve appear to have come from China.
