The young patrician was already esteemed a connoisseur in the most exquisite industries of Venice, and the Lady Laura had confided to her son the ordering of a set of goblets of girasole for the banqueta new opalescent glass, with iridescent borderings, such as had never yet been seen at any Venetian fête.

The whole body was covered with coloured woollen borderings and fringes, the arms with bracelets of metal, bone, and glass beads; even to the ears large woollen tassels were hung, in addition to the usual ornaments, and the feet were loaded with heavy rings and chains.

If one of the tombs gets broken, even now we have quantities of borderings carved with saints and flowers that are wonderful to see.
