The view from this hill is a very extensive one, embracing the vale from Bath almost to Reading the whole length of the Cotswold Hills, as well as the Chilterns, stretching away eastwards towards Aylesbury, and far into Buckinghamshire.

There is a treasure-train within their reach, worth twenty-one thousand pounds, and destined for the Parliamentary camp, but the thick woods of the Chilterns have sheltered it from pursuit, and they have not a moment to waste; they are riding for their lives.

So warp out your transports and bear us away From the Yser and Somme, from the Ancre and the Aisne, From fire-blackened deserts of shell-pitted clay, And give us our Chilterns and Cotswolds again.
