However, the actors were too good to be defeated by the authors; and the two couplesthe Babes (Mr. STANLEY LUPINO as Horace and Mr. WILL EVANS as Flossie) and the Robbers (Messrs. EGBERT)went far by their personal drollery and unflagging spirits to make up for any defect in the words.

Mrs. Hall-Walker is an admirer of this colour, and her Gateacre Philander, Lupino, and Orange Girl are great prize-winners.

Almost every character is provided with a confidant: Silvio has Linco; Mirtillo, Ergasto; Dorinda, Lupino; Carino, the supposed father of Mirtillo, has Uranio; Montano and Titiro act as confidants to one another.

It proves, however, to be Dorinda, who has throughout followed his chase disguised in the rough wolf-skin coat of a herdsman, and who is now led fainting on to the scene by Lupino.
