Amongst all those divine attributes that God doth vindicate to himself, eternity, omnipotency, immutability, wisdom, majesty, justice, mercy, &c., his beauty is not the least, one thing, saith David, have I desired of the Lord, and that I will still desire, to behold the beauty of the Lord, Psal. xxvii.

4. And out of Sion, which is the perfection of beauty, hath God shined, Psal. 1. 2.

In all troubles and adversities, Psal. xlvi.

10., "that every day feeds on a thousand hills," Psal. 1. 10., that great Leviathan, and a great bird, that laid an egg so big,

"As a father" (saith David Psal. ciii. 13) "hath compassion on his children, so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear him."

"The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, slow to anger, of great kindness," Psal. ciii.

His mercy is above all His works," Psal. cxlv.

He looks down from heaven upon earth, that he may hear the "mourning of prisoners, and deliver the children of death," Psal. cii.

On the rule, the word of God, by which alone we must regulate all our actions; and this ought to be our meditation day and night, and all our study, as we see it was David's, and other holy men of God, their daily work, see Psal. i. and cxix.

There should be a constant, diligent, serious, and single using of the means of knowledge, with a faithful dependence on Christ by faith, gripping to him in his relations, offices, engagements, and promises, and waiting upon his breathing in hope and patience, Psal.

A guarding against pride in the heart, and a studying of humility and meekness; for the "meek will he guide in judgment, and the meek will he teach his way," Psal.

David understood more than the ancients, because he kept God's precepts, Psal. cxix.
