By championing the cause of the "under-dog" in Centralia Smith brought down on himself the wrath of the lumber trust.

There to ease his cranial distension He will lead the simple life, incog., Far from international dissension Or upheavals of the under-dog; Leaving all unread his weekly Hansard, Studying only novels at his meals, Leaving correspondence all unanswered, Deaf to FOCH'S passionate appeals.

The under-dog is more excusable in its aims, but its methods aren't any more attractive.

Some framing the fight in favour of the shack-owning under-dogs, others pointing to their lack of civic responsibility with their spliced electricity wires and overflowing rubbish out of the backs of the flimsy beach side establishments.

Of course it is a mistake to adopt any line of action that leads definitely to the position of Under-Dog, and to fight when you cannot win.
