Mohammed the Conqueror had not only shown marked favour to Christians, whether his rayas or not, but encouraged letters and the arts in a very un-Arabian spirit.

He thinks the events of the late war prove little, and that the Sultan has learnt a lesson which will induce him to treat his rayas betterthat the war once over, all men will return to their duty.
