At last, worn out with labor and disease, and perhaps embittered by disappointment, and saddened to see the increasing tendency to elevate little men to power,the "grasshoppers, who make the field ring with their importunate chinks, while the great cattle chew the cud and are silent,"Webster died at Marshfield, Oct. 24, 1852, at seventy years of age.

In January, 1775, a conflict was barely averted at Marshfield, and in the following month the situation was so strained at Salem that nothing but great forbearance and presence of mind on the part of the colonists prevented bloodshed.

Daniel Webster died at Marshfield, in Massachusetts, on Sunday, the 24th of October, between 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning.
