The report of the vandals and sacrilegious persons who received it is worth copying, if only to show their character.

Some time during the early '50s a secret order known as the Sons of Malta was organized in one of the Eastern states, and its membership increased throughout the West with as much rapidity as the Vandals and Goths increased their numbers during the declining years of the Roman Empire.

They have not found out, I believe, how much their nation is sunk in Europe;probably the Goths and Vandals of the North will open their eyes before a century is past.

Nature gave to mankind a beautiful world, and larger than it could occupy,for, as to the eruption of Goths and Vandals occasioned by excess of population, I very much doubt it; and mankind prefers deforming the ready Paradise, to improving and enjoying it.
